We have over 35 years of experience with all aspects of raising, training, and developing horses and riders.   What makes us special is that we are accessible to the novice rider through experienced, professional riders.   Our methodology with horse starting and beginning horse people is to provide a well rounded experience. 
 
For the horse, this means utilizing traditional California horsemen training, experience out on the trails and events, and finally moving towards finished training.  Although we realize training is never really finished, we believe in providing the foundation so that the horse can perform any tasked asked of it and hopefully excel its discipline.  Even  our english horses are started in this manner.  As such, your dressage horse may very well make for the reliable occasional husband or trail horse.    
 
For the rider, we believe in horseman's awareness.  This means that our students will learn to recognize their awareness of their horse, other horses around them, different riding disciplines, basic and advanced horse care, psychology, as well as mastering their discipline while having knowledge and respect for all.  
 
Our colt starter, western disciplines trainer, Shawn originally started training mules and horses when he was 15 for the  Boy Scouts (he later became an Eagle Scout).  He learned a program that got horses and mules broke enough to be useful for the Scouts in a four week turn around.   In his heart he felt he could offer more to his horses - show them more, so they would be prepared for more.  After learning all he could from that program, along with his peers, he began his own operation with his family.  This lead to a career with horse training and teaching people to understand the language of horses.  He has has several lesson programs throughout the state of California, trained horses for use in the movie industry, race horses, western pleasure, driving, trail rides, etc.   He has taught thousands of people how to ride and understand their horse as well as rescued plenty of "problem" horses.    Please check back for more about Shawn.
